CARTINGTON PARISH COUNCIL
The Meeting of Cartington Parish Council was held in the Dovecote Room at the Jubilee Hall on Monday 2nd August 2010.

APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE : Apologies were received from the Police.
MINUTES : The Minutes of the last meetings were circulated, confirmed that they were in order and signed by the Chairman.
MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES : The Cartington Parish Council web site was up and running thanks to Mr Mike Hodgson. It was agreed to write a letter to him thanking him for his work and acting so swiftly on this project. It was also agreed to put the date of the next meeting into the Gazette.
Councillor Armstrong will put a note into the Over the Bridges magazine to let all the Cartington Parishioners know that there is now a web site up and running.
INTERNAL AUDIT : Mr Logan Wood had completed the internal audit and the Annual Return had been sent to BDO LLP.
ACCOUNTS FOR PAYMENT : It was agreed to pay £34.37 to the National Association of Local Councils.
PLANNING :
A/2010/0252 - Installation of new drainage, electrical fittings, watertaps and sign sockets. Excavation and removal of existing gravel to forecourt, laying new asphalt road surface and application of new resin bonded gravel finish at Cragside Manor, Cragside. – It was felt that the proposed development was appropriate for the premises and its use and CPC support the application.
A/2010/0270 - Fire upgrade works to Cragside House, Cragside – CPC support this proposed work.
A/2010/0198 - Installation of new drainage, electrical fittings, water taps and sign sockets, excavation and removal of existing gravel to forecourt, laying new asphalt road surface and application of new resin bonded gravel finish at Cragside Mansion, Cragside. – CPC have no objections and consider the proposed work to be appropriate.
RURAL ENTERPRISE STRATEGY : Councillors Armstrong and Macey attended a meeting regarding this. In essence the Centre of Rural Economy had done a survey to find our various key indicators to see how economics were going in rural Northumberland trying to work out strategies i.e. do we need more rural businesses. It was felt it was a replica of a survey done 10 years earlier and the answers were much the same as they were before.
CORRESPONDENCE : A letter was received from NCC giving advanced notification about the undertaking of surface dressing to roads throughout the County. The road to be surface dressed in Cartington Parish is the B6342 Garleigh Bank.
NCC also wrote regarding its Street Trading Policy. Traders who use the public highway to sell goods or services must have a street trading licence.

Rothbury Joint Burial Committee –Sub-committee minutes and financial statement.
ANY OTHER BUSINESS : Councillor Macey wondered what NCC intentions were for repairing the sides of the road from Whittle farm road end to Cartington. The tarmac on the sides of the road has been washed away. It was agreed that the Clerk write to NCC expressing this councils concerns with regard to the road edges broken and deeply trenched which could cause damage to wheels etc.
