Rothbury & Coquetdale History Society

Who we are

Formed over 40 years ago, the History Society offers members and visitors an insight into the rich history of the area all year round.

During the summer months, the Society gets out and about with visits to historical sites. From September through to April, each monthly meeting in Rothbury's Jubilee Hall has a guest speaker on a national historical subject.

Whenever possible, these talks have a North-East connection, which is not difficult with such a wealth of subjects to choose from: The Roman Wall, Lindisfarne, border reivers and Scottish incursions, Lord Armstrong and Cragside, Coal Mining and Ship building, Harry Hotspur and the Percys, Admiral Collingwood and Thomas Bewick, Capability Brown and Emily Davison - to name but a few!

What we do

The History Society meets in Rothbury's Jubilee Hall at 7pm (for 7.30) on the third Friday of the month, from September through to April. Non-members are always welcome at each meeting for £2, whilst annual membership (which includes all 8 lectures/meetings) is £8.

The current season's schedule is listed on the right.

Refreshments are available, with the December meeting including a Christmas wine and cake buffet. We also have a monthly e-mail newsletter, and are regularly featured in the Northumberland Gazette.

During the season we have about 70 regular attending members and visitors, with well over 150 guests over the season.

And even though there are no meetings in the summer moths, the society continues with visits to historical sites.
